About us:

Clerksroom is a leading, independent, national civil chambers. We accept instructions to appear as advocate, advise or mediate at all civil & family courts and tribunals in England & Wales.

For Fast Track matters we do not charge travel to any Court, we use our national network of barristers to provide cover locally. For small claims or interlocutory matters , we also seek assistance from other local chambers or counsel using our online booking system.

We work with our trusted group of 75 barristers and 500 mediators for whom we provide clerking services using our regional offices and highly efficient web based administration system. Like any other chambers we select barristers rigorously and maintain stringent monitoring of the service they provide.

We offer access to a talented group of legal specialists for all types of cases and requirements. On starting out in 2001 we chose to adopt a standard commercial business structure (ABS) with a management company instead of the traditional Chambers constitution. Our members are committed to high levels of service which are set out in a formal service level agreement to ensure consistency of approach in everything we do as a chambers.

If you have an existing successful civil or family finance practice, wish to work from home, can demonstrate a total commitment to customer care and the highest quality of service, and are prepared to "go the extra mile", then we would like to hear from you. Contact our Chambers Director Martin Davies or Managing Director Stephen Ward on 0845 083 3000 or email in confidence using davies@clerksroom.com

If you would like to discuss any new business ideas, chambers mergers, takeovers or something "outside the box", please speak to Stephen Ward our Managing Director on 0845 083 3000 or email ward@clerksroom.com also in confidence.

Minimum rate

A variable monthly fee calculated at the rate of 12% of fees received plus VAT payable monthly in arrears and subject to a minimum payment on the 10th day of each month in the sum of £750 plus VAT.

Associate Membership (Door Tenant)

Associate Membership is available where the Barrister is a full member of another chambers but wishes to have what was traditionally called a door tenancy. We class this as an Associate Membership. An Associate Member is clearly identified on our website profiles as being an Associate Member of Clerksroom and not a Full Member.

Full Members have priority over any unallocated work. Associate Membership is intended for barristers who wish to market themselves more widely through the Clerksroom website.

Key benefits of Associate Membership are:

  • Website profile with secure login
  • Premium access to Clerksroom Online and available work

Associate Members tend to fall into 2 categories, they are either senior members of the Bar who wish to advertise their specific niche area to a wider audience or they are junior barristers who wish to have priority access to lower value, higher volume work such as small claims or infant approval hearings through our network. Clerksroom offer associate junior members access to premium services at a fixed rate of £100 + VAT pcm paid by standing order. The alternative is 15% of fees invoiced when paid.

Silks rate

10% of fees received payable monthly in arrears within seven days of the date of invoice, subject to a minimum monthly payment of £750 +VAT payable by standing order in advance on the 10th day of each calendar month.

For more information, please call us in confidence on 0845 083 3000 to discuss your personal circumstances. You can also email Stephen Ward, MD using ward@clerksroom.com.   All calls and emails are treated in complete confidence.

Option to change

Members of Clerksroom have the option to change the basis of clerks' fees at any time as we recognise that individual circumstances change. We require one month's notice of your wish to change to an alternative charging structure from the options available.
